In 2015, Loulé will have a “sports” Carnival. The oldest carnival corso in the country goes out on the 14th, 15th and 17th of February, always at 15 pm, and will have the theme “Loulé, European City of Sport and Capital of Carnival Tradition”.
In all, 14 floats will parade along José da Costa Mealha Avenue. And, taking advantage of the fact that Loulé is, in 2015, the European Capital of Sport, the municipality decided to associate the condition of host of the European-wide initiative with the famous Carnival party that it hosts annually, since 1906.
This means that "the most representative modalities of the Loulé associative movement will be highlighted, as well as the most important events in the field of sport". And, as expected, special attention will be given to Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently won the third Golden Ball of his career.
In addition, and as usual, there will be “social, political and sporting satire, the main hallmark of the Loulé Carnival”. «The figures and themes that make up the news are present in what is one of the main tourist attractions in the Algarve region during the low season», illustrated Loulé City Council.
«The mediatic arrest of José Sócrates, the controversy surrounding the placement of teachers in the current school year and the declarations of Education Minister Nuno Crato, the struggle for the leadership of the Socialist Party or the austerity measures imposed by the Government are matters that are part of of this Carnival's agenda”, the municipality says.
In addition to the floats, collectivities from the Municipality, animation groups, samba, cabeçudos and gigantones schools and the usual entertainment in the largest corso in the south of the country will take part in the parade. Admission to the corso will cost 2 euros.
Before the seniors' party, the little ones will make the party. On February 13th, at 10 am, the same Avenida José da Costa Mealha will host the Children's Carnival parade, with more than 2500 students from public and private schools in the Municipality (1st Cycle and Kindergartens). At the same time, in Quarteira, students from schools in this parish parade.
Carnival party spreads throughout the municipality of Loulé
In addition to the great Carnival party in the center of Loulé, there will be other initiatives in other parts of the county.
In Alte, in one of the most traditional privateers in the interior, the parade takes place on the 15th and 17th of February, while on the coast, in Quarteira, the parade takes place on the 14th, 15th and 17th. Ash Fair, on the 18th, the Entrudo Burial takes place.
On Monday, February 16, from 21 pm, NERA, in the Industrial Zone of Loulé, will host another Gala at the Loulé Carnival, with the theme “Olympic Games: Ancient Greece”. Tickets have a price of 12 euros and can be purchased on site or, in advance, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano.
Other activities are also planned, such as the 41st edition of the Carnival International Sailing Tournament, a prestigious event that brings thousands of sailors to Vilamoura Marina. This initiative takes place on the 14th, 15th and 16th of February.
