We must listen to students more and involve them more in the decision-making processes of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve.
This was the main message left this Monday by Nuno Lopes, soon after taking office as the new president of AAUAlg.
Soon after being made official in the position for which he was elected last December, in a ceremony where all the members of the association's governing bodies took office, the Pharmacy student spoke about the financial situation of AAUAlg, a matter that remains on the agenda, despite the clear financial recovery achieved in recent years, but focused on his discourse on internal participation.
“We are used to talking to students, when it should be the other way around. We should hear more», considered Nuno Lopes, speaking to the Sul Informação.

Listening to students is achieved, believes the new president of AAUAlg, providing more «informal» conversation moments, which complement the formal ones that already exist. This, he believes, will be the most appropriate way to encourage students at the University of Algarve to reveal what is in their soul.
“This can be done in many ways. For example, my General Management and I will almost always have lunch in the canteen, which is a good opportunity to talk to the students, find out about their problems and inform them of their rights», he said.
Before Nuno Lopes took office, Filipa Braz da Silva resigned from the post of president of AAUAlg, which he held for two terms. The UAlg student took the opportunity to take stock of what she was able to accomplish, together with her teams, which she passed for the fight for a broader right of access to scholarships and Bylaws review completed, a process that had been dragging on for a long time.
In the financial field, Filipa Silva highlighted that, in 2014, AAUAlg had «the best results ever», the result of a policy of containment and internal restructuring that is now beginning to bear fruit. According to the outgoing president of AAUAlg, in the last three years, it was possible to reduce the association's liabilities "by 400 thousand euros".
