reservoir_new year_1Around 150 thousand people passed through Albufeira between the 31st of December and the 4th of January, to participate in the New Year's Eve festivities, announced today the Municipal Council of this Algarve municipality.

Music, fireworks and lots of entertainment marked the last day of 2014. But the program lasted until January 4th, with the Paderne Medieval event, in the historic village of Barrocal in the Algarve, and the “Solrir” Humor Festival ”, which brought the most renowned comedians nationwide to Albufeira.

Another New Year's Eve in which Albufeira has once again established itself as one of the great destinations for this traditionally festive season. The City Council and APAL – Albufeira Promotion Agency – got together to promote a five-day program suggesting a mini-holiday.

It is estimated that around 150 thousand people passed through Albufeira between the 31st of December and the 4th of January. On the 31st, more than 50 thousand people chose Praia dos Pescadores to toast the New Year in the long-awaited concert by the sea», reveals the municipality.

The entry into 2015 was made to the sound of DAMA and Tiago Bettencourt, who got the audience dancing with themes well known to the general public.

reservoir_new year_2But the party started in the afternoon with TVI's New Year's Eve Special Show, live from downtown. There were six hours of broadcasting broadcast by the leading audience station, which was associated, for the first time, with the New Year's Eve celebrations in Albufeira.

The program, which has an estimated audience of over 1 million viewers, brought together thousands of people at Largo Eng.o Duarte Pacheco. Throughout the day, presenters Manuel Luís Goucha and Mónica Jardim made known the best of the county outside the bathing season, in the various interviews and reports promoted for that purpose.

The entry into 2015 was marked by the fireworks session that lit up Praia dos Pescadores and Praia da Oura. After twelve tolls, Avenida Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro was filled with excitement with the Star Parade, a parade of circus artists that filled the streets and adherent commercial establishments with juggling, acrobatics, numbers with fire and many surprises.

reservoir_new year_3But the New Year celebrations continued until last Sunday. In the first four days of 2015, the parish of Paderne went back in time and welcomed more than 15 visitors, who walked the streets of the village of Barrocal in the Algarve in a unique environment.

Those who passed there had the opportunity to get to know a medieval market up close where there was no lack of gastronomic delicacies, ancient arts and crafts, exhibitions and musical performances alluding to the time.

Visitors on the first day of the year were also able to attend the historic parade that portrayed the ceremony for the delivery of the Letter of Donation to Paderne.

Also during the first days of 2015, Albufeira once again hosted the largest Humor Festival in Portugal, which took place at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, at Herdade dos Salgados. There were more than 6 spectators who received 2015 laughing, in the four nights they took to the stage renowned artists such as Nilton, Aldo Lima, Serafim, Herman José, Ana Bola, Óscar Branco, Manuel Marques, among many others, who starred truly hilarious moments.

The great turnout of the public in all sessions confirmed that Solrir is the biggest event of its kind at national level, bringing together the best comedians of today.

reservoir_new year_4The Festival is an initiative of Press Happiness in collaboration with the Municipality of Albufeira, having been sponsored by Caixa Agrícola and supported by NAU Hotels and Resorts, by APAL – Albufeira and Algarve Tourism Agency.

Carlos Silva e Sousa, Mayor, stressed that “this entire program generated a significant economic impact on the municipality, having also generated a large media return, which represent positive aspects for a municipality like Albufeira”.

The mayor also said that he was certain that “the vast majority of those who visited us considered their investment well spent” and also took the opportunity to “thank all those who helped Albufeira to lead the New Year celebrations in the south of the country”.

For José Santos, president of APAL, “this New Year's program is, increasingly, a brand that matters to be valued because it is already part of the Albufeira tradition and APAL will be here to support this and other initiatives that represent a more- was valid for our county”.

Albufeira's New Year's Eve program was the result of a partnership between the Municipality and the Albufeira Promotion Agency (APAL), with the support of local entrepreneurs, who contributed financially to the event.
