Partridge Fair_1Hunting and everything related to this activity were the stars of the VII Feira da Perdiz, which took place over the weekend in Martim Longo and was visited by thousands of visitors. Or if it weren't for the red partridge one of the region's “ex-libris” and the hunting one of the county's tourist attractions.

"Hunting is an attraction for many thousands of visitors, lovers of the sport, from all regions of the country, who come to us every year at this time of year, giving a strong increase to the local economy", stressed Osvaldo dos Santos Gonçalves, president of the municipality , in the opening speech of the event.

Also present were the Algarve Regional Director for Agriculture and Fisheries, Fernando Severino, the Algarve Regional Director for Forests, José Duarte Pacheco, and the Regional Director for Alentejo Forests, Pedro Rocha, among other local and regional entities.

In this edition, the fair, organized by the Alcoutim Chamber, had more than fifty exhibitors of articles related to hunting, tourism, handicraft and local cuisine, and with a space adjacent to the exhibition reserved for taverns with a wide range of game-based dishes were one of the main reasons for attracting visitors.

Partridge Fair_2During the two days of the fair, there were many activities, animations, exhibitions and competitions, including the Portuguese Cup of Practical Hunting and the lectures “The new variety of viral hemorrhagic disease and the wild rabbit crisis” and “The hunting in protected and classified areas”, by Pedro Esteves, researcher at CIBIO (Research Center for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources), and by Pedro Rocha, director of the Alentejo Nature and Forest Conservation Department of the National Forest Authority (AFN), respectively. .

The event was also marked by the start, on Saturday afternoon, of the second edition of the Gastronomic Festival of the Municipality of Alcoutim “Sabores da Serra ao Rio”, which will take place in fourteen restaurants in the municipality until 30 November.

The festival's presentation, in this edition dedicated to autumn flavors, included a “show cooking” by Chef Adérito Almeida, from Escola de Hotelaria de Faro, who toasted the presents with a game based on game, as it should be.
