Largo de Olhão rehabilitated in the Caminho das Lendas projectThe foreign community residing in Olhão will unite to try to stop some of the measures foreseen in the proposed revision of the Municipal Master Plan, namely urban regeneration interventions in the city's downtown.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 18 pm, there will be a plenary open to the public, at Sociedade Recreativa Olhanense (Velha), from which the organizers expect a public petition to be issued, which will be delivered to the Chamber of Olhão, within the scope of the Public Discussion process of the proposed revision of the PDM, in progress until December 10th.

In the call, sent to newsrooms, the group of foreign citizens appealed for participation, claiming that "Olhão is under a greater threat than when it was invaded by the French."

At issue, the municipality's plans for downtown Olhão and typical neighborhoods that exist there, which they believe will detract from the oldest part of the city, which still preserves very old-style houses, which have been bought, in large part, by citizens of other countries.

Among the measures that may be objectionable are the replacement of the Portuguese sidewalk by stone pavement, industrially cut (as happened in the work of Caminho das Lendas, much criticized for this reason) «including Rua do Comércio and Rua Vasco da Gama» , the complete cut in downtown traffic, the installation of urban furniture and other modern elements and the increase in the quota of buildings located next to Avenida 5 de Outubro, which «will block the view of the houses that are behind them», among others .
