Guadiana BridgeThe opportunity to fund joint initiatives through the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain – Portugal (POCTEP 2014 – 2020), as well as the constitution of a European grouping of territorial cooperation, were two of the topics discussed on Tuesday, in Faro, during a meeting between the presidents of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) and the Diputación Provincial de Huelva.

"Given the expression of interest and desire for institutional cooperation shown by the two presidents, the process is now in charge of the technical teams of the Intermunicipal Community of Algarve and the Diputación Provincial de Huelva, which should move forward very soon", adds AMAL , in a press release.

At the meeting, Jorge Botelho and Ignacio Caraballo Romero debated the strengthening of economic and social cohesion between the cross-border territories of the Algarve and Andalusia.

According to AMAL's press release, the two political leaders analyzed the areas of strategic cooperation between both territories and defended, as a main priority, people, to think about projects and actions that may be developed in the future and that may be associated to diverse domains such as the environment, civil protection, tourism, historical, cultural and gastronomic heritage, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer, among others.
