Municipality-of-PortimãoThe possibility of the Portimão City Council closing its doors is worrying the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL). The association of municipalities is said to be "solidarity" with the executive from Portimo after the Court of Auditors refused to sign a contract for the purchase of insurance services.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, AMAL considers that "this situation places the Municipality of Portimão in a delicate position regardless of the budget guarantee available to pay this expense, since, without insurance, the municipality incurs in non-compliance with the protection of people and goods'.

Therefore, AMAL calls on the "government for a quick solution in order to resolve the strong constraints that this situation may cause in the municipality and in the entire municipality".

For the president of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve, socialist Jorge Botelho, «this is a problem that we want to see quickly resolved, since the Portimão Council does not meet, in the face of such an impediment, the necessary conditions to maintain the proper functioning of the services provided to the community, and may feel obliged to close doors».

In a press release, AMAL states that «despite the Law on Commitments and Late Payments exempting mandatory expenses, the municipality of Portimão was not authorized to enter into a contract for the acquisition of various insurance services, from work accidents to car insurance. , in a value exceeding 673 thousand euros for 3 years».

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community also emphasizes that the transfer of the insurance portfolio to another company «allowed a reduction in expenditure on these services by around 77 thousand euros».
