The Cavala Algarvia Week, an initiative that is part of the Cavala VRP project, coordinated by the CCMAR (Center for Marine Sciences) of the University of Algarve, is taking place in 38 restaurants in all counties of the Barlavento algarvio, until tomorrow , Friday, the 31st of October.
If you are having lunch or dinner at any of the 38 participating restaurants, take a picture of the dish. The three best photographs get a “mackerel” (in acrylic, with approximately 50 cm) to hang in your kitchen and write your menu every day.
The event aims to reveal some of the biological particularities of mackerel from our coast, promote their consumption and valorization as an economic resource. For this purpose, several studies have been carried out in order to determine its breeding season and lipid content, in order to define the appropriate landing sizes, as well as the most favorable time of year for its consumption.
In parallel, a series of events took place, including cooking demonstrations and tastings, which in Albufeira, for example, took place at the Mercado Municipal dos Caliços and Marina de Albufeira, last August.
