Maria Keil Philatelic ShowThe Municipality of Silves, in partnership with AFAL – Philatelic Association Alentejo Algarve, will promote this Friday, October 31st, at the Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves, initiatives related to philately and whose central figure is Maria Keil, with as a backdrop the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of that artist from Silva.

Thus, on this day, and with the support of CTT – Correios de Portugal, a decentralized post office will operate on site between 17:00 and 19:30, which will stamp the letters that are sent on that day, with the difference that the will make with a special stamp alluding to the artist.

In this way, all those who wish to send a letter with the "stamp of the day" alluding to the artist from Silva can go, during that time, to the temporary post office of the Municipal Museum of Archeology, and send their correspondence ( who knows with the artist's €0,50 stamp, launched this year by CTT and which is part of the series “Vultos da História e da Cultura Nacional”.

On this day there will also be a place for the official launch of the stamp commemorating the centenary of the artist's birth and for the inauguration of the “Maria Keil na Filatelia” philatelic exhibition, activities that will begin at 18 pm.

Stamps designed by Maria Keil, as well as others whose theme is associated with plastic arts, and a small exhibition of objects alluding to the postal service in Portugal, donated by the Museu dos CTT, are some of the contents of this exhibition, which can be visited until today January 4, 2015, and which will be attended by nine exhibitors, all of them related to philately.

Since 5 July, the Municipality of Silves, in partnership with the Museum of the Presidency, has exhibited at the Igreja da Misericórdia the exhibition “Maria Keil – artistic itineraries”, with works that make her artistic and personal journey known.
