The GNR detained a man who maintained a cannabis plantation on land attached to his house, in São Brás de Alportel, for drug trafficking. In addition to the detention, a 63-year-old woman, a family member of the detainee and a resident of the place, was constituted as a defendant.
During the operation, '4,7 kilos of cannabis flowers, part of the plant where the psychoactive substance present in it is most concentrated (Tetrahydrocannabinol), were seized, in addition to eight cannabis plants in the growing phase and 175 grams of seeds and leaves of crushed cannabis'.
GNR is "strongly convinced that the cultivation and selection of flowers (with a high commercial value and part already separated and wrapped individually) was intended for trade".
From the home search made to the residence by the military of the Criminal Investigation Nucleus of the GNR Territorial Detachment of Faro, responsible for the operation, also resulted in the seizure “of a small quantity of hashish, a replica of a firearm (Walther P99), three bladed weapons (machetes) and various objects related to the cultivation of narcotic drugs, namely plates in styrofoam (used to sow plants) and part of a sophisticated system that guaranteed the irrigation of the plantation».
This is the 12th seizure of this kind that the Algarve GNR carried out, in 2014, stresses the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, noting that this is a region with favorable weather conditions for the development of cannabis plants.
