Cecilia HonorioThe deputy of the Left Bloc elected by Algarve Cecília Honório will speak about her book «Women Against Dictatorship» in a session that will take place on Friday, at the Sociedade Recreativa Olhanense, in Olhão, at 21 pm.

The session will be presented by Idalécio Soares and will consist of a conversation on the topic addressed by Cecília Honório in her book.

Excerpt from the work:

«The first “elite” of women who fought against the post-war dictatorship was born in the Youth Democratic Unity Movement (MUDJ, 1946-1957).

Daughters of judges, conservatives, doctors, lawyers, soldiers, or businessmen, daughters of oppositionists, republicans above all, they were educated young people looking for new political answers, different from those of their parents. Bourgeois women, many of them university women, who dragged rural workers into the MUDJ, with their leadership and organization capacity.

This work is intended to give visibility to the girls of the MUDJ, who risked, were imprisoned, read banned books, recruited, spoke, fought in campaigns, discussed animatedly in cafes, and even challenged the morals and good customs of the time, with mixed sociability, which brought girls and boys together on country walks, picnics, or singing Lopes Graça.

It goes in search of those who started their political life in MUDJ and the many who passed from light to shadow, even when they did not give up fighting the dictatorship.”
