partridge fair_1The municipality of Alcoutim is preparing to host the VII Partridge Fair, which will take place at the Municipal Sports Pavilion, in Martim Longo, on November 8th and 9th.

Aiming to promote hunting conditions in the municipality, the event is organized by the Municipality of Alcoutim and has free entry.

The official opening is scheduled for the 8th, Saturday, at 10:00 am. Before that, the Portuguese Cup of Practical Hunting will take place outside the fair grounds, at 07:00, and a Hunting of Rabbits, scheduled to start at 08:00.

The first of these activities will take place in the Associative Hunting Zone of Castelhanos and Laborato and in the Hunting Zone of the Arbutus Hunters Association, while the Rabbit Hunt will take place in the Tourist Hunting Zone of Pereiro.

The musical animation will be in charge of Ivete Mangalho e Rolinhas and the Portuguese popular music group “Arco da Velha”. Another highlight is the presentation, at 20:00 on the 8th, of the second Gastronomic Festival of the Municipality of Alcoutim, during which a Show cooking will take place.

In addition to moments of entertainment and socializing, the fair will be the stage for moments of clarification and debate with two colloquia on the themes "The new variety of viral hemorrhagic disease and the wild rabbit crisis" and "Hunting in protected and classified areas" , scheduled for the 8th, at 11:30 am.

The name of the fair, dedicated to hunting in general, is due to the fact that the red partridge, one of the most important game species of our fauna and highly coveted by hunters, is particularly common in this region despite having suffered a marked decline in the Peninsula Iberian. «In Alcoutim it is not uncommon to be surprised by a flock of red partridges crossing the road», stresses the municipality.
