beta talk guestsSandra Barbedo and Arnaldo Couto, founders of Mill Houses and responsible for a village tourism project, and Octávio Lourenço, founder of ferox and creator of innovative and artistic surfboards, they are the guests of another Beta Talk, scheduled for September 16, at 19 pm, in the informal and relaxed atmosphere of Café Concerto do TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

Beta Talk is back this month for another season of inspiring conversations between people with an entrepreneurial spirit, crossing the surf and the western Algarve coast as sources of inspiration for new businesses and scenarios for a lifestyle where the entrepreneurial spirit speaks louder .

Passionate about the Algarve region for several years, Sandra and Arnold they left the north of the country for the west coast of the Algarve. Good connoisseurs of rural tourism, after many holidays in and out of Portugal in which they always sought inspiration in spaces marked by nature and authenticity, they decided in 2006 to invest in their own village tourism project in Odeceixe, which also became a project for family life.

In 2010, they opened the doors of Casas do Moinho to those looking for an experience of spending a day or two in an old village in the country, in a unique concept of proximity and local experience.

casa-do-moinho_2-470x300Sandra is a clinical psychologist, but since she was young, she has always been an entrepreneur, with clinics and nursery businesses, which make her an excellent public relations and "visionary", while Arnaldo developed several activities for others, but early on he also engaged in the business of transport and logistics, which in the meantime sold to embrace the management of Casas do Moinho.

Today they live and give life to the village spirit, far away from the frenetic movement of daily life and where time seems to stand still.

As for Octávio, he was born 40 years ago in S. Brás de Alportel and studied in Caldas da Rainha, where he attended the Visual Arts course. Being a native of the Algarve and despite being born in the mountains, the sea has always been an important part of his personal development and it was in Cabanas de Tavira that he had his first contact with surfing, on an afternoon of Levante in the summer.

boardsLater, he presented his own boards as an artistic project at the end of the course. His interest in surfing and boards, together with his training in fine arts, gave birth to his own company, FEROX, around 14 years ago, a 100% Portuguese brand whose name was inspired by a species of shark found on the Algarve coast.

Installed in the municipality of origin, in the middle of Serra do Caldeirão and with no direct connection to the sea, today it is sought after by surfers of all nationalities and ages who appreciate its artistic models and personalized boards, having launched this summer a type of boards made with corks recycled cork and pita agave wood, a plant of Mexican origin found in the Algarve.

Since good ideas deserve a freebie, it is already assured by the usual support of local winemakers Quinta do Morgado da Torre, Herdade dos Pimentéis and Quinta da Penina, who from the very beginning established a partnership with Beta Talk, promoting the wines produced in the county.
