The GNR seized a large quantity of items stolen from luxury homes located in the Vilamoura area, "valued at thousands of euros".
Following this operation, the Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC) of the GNR of Loulé, the man in whose house, located in Almancil, the material was found, was constituted as a defendant, and six other people were identified, one woman and five men, who “acquired or kept in deposit the stolen objects, at the request of the author of the illicit ones».
The investigation into the thefts that took place in Vilamoura had been ongoing for two weeks and led to a house search of the 41-year-old suspect, who was mostly attacking the property of foreign nationals and apparently being quite active. The list of recovered items, which only includes the most relevant, is, moreover, quite extensive.
GNR recovered “nine watches from reputable brands, including Rolex, nine Iphone's, six Ipad's and an Ipod, a laptop and two Mac Book Air, two camcorders and two high-end cameras, an LCD and two DVD players, a video game console, three mobile phones, six external disks, a pen-drive and several memory cards and three rings and a wire».
Perfumes, designer clothes, money from different countries were also recovered, including notes with ink residues, «possibly taken from an ATM» and even a car, stolen from a residence in Vilamoura, in addition to other items of lesser value.
"The author of the thefts is a socially well-connected person and preferentially chose luxury houses belonging to foreign citizens residing in Vilamoura, committing thefts when the injured parties were already sleeping inside the house", according to the Territorial Command of Faro.
"The Guarda Nacional Republicana is strongly convinced that the target is responsible for more than a dozen thefts that have occurred in recent months in luxury homes located in Vilamoura, having already contacted several injured parties and proceeded to return part of the stolen objects", he adds. the same entity, in a statement.
