The Ophthalmology program promoted by the Municipality of Olhão began this Monday, September 8, at the Municipal Services of the Health Center of Olhão. More than 100 people have already signed up and are now starting the first phase of the process, the consultation, with a view to their eye treatment.
On the first day of consultations, according to the responsible physician, 16 users were seen, "some of them with complicated cases, who have already been to a consultation at the Hospital de Faro and they are still waiting for another consultation in a year's time”, stresses the municipality.
This reality shows that "it was really necessary for the Municipality of Olhão to take the initiative to help, in a more efficient way, the people of Olhão with serious vision problems, some of them already blind in one eye and with cataracts in the other", says the Mayor António Miguel Pina.
These consultations - which arise after people with greater financial difficulties and vision problems who cannot see resolved in the National Health Service, have registered with the City Council - are the first step for the ophthalmologist who works in exclusive with the municipalities of Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António, as part of the “Care” programme, learn about the ophthalmological problems of each user.
According to this information obtained by the clinician - who leads a team with two more doctors and two technicians - he will subsequently proceed with surgical interventions in the necessary cases, since one of the main objectives of this initiative is that those who have vision difficulties can see .
Interested parties can continue to register with the Municipality of Olhão, being then contacted for the first consultation.
