A Cessna plane that picked up this morning from the Municipal Aerodrome of Portimão crashed into the sea at around 10:30 am, two miles from Porto da Baleeira, in Sagres. Only the pilot, José dos Santos Inácio, a 74-year-old Portuguese man from Mexilhoeira Grande, Portimão, an emigrant in Canada, who is still missing, was on the plane.
According to Sul Informação he learned from the Air Force, which is coordinating the relief operations, that two Navy assets are already in place, "a speedboat and the Centauro patrol ship", and an Air Force search and rescue helicopter has been dispatched. around 13:15, it would be arriving, or "even already on the spot". There are also fishing boats helping with the searches.
"For now, we are focused on locating the crew," said the institution's spokesman, who confirmed the data already advanced by our newspaper.
The plane in question was a Cessna 152, white and red. The flight would be for pleasure, departing and returning to Portimão.
This morning, visibility in the Sagres area was very low, due to the heavy fog that was felt, although it is not certain that this was at the root of the accident.
