The athlete from São Brás de Alportel Filipe Conceição will once again test his limits, in a new Ironman triathlon event. The Algarvian will participate in the «KDM Ironman Copenhagen 2014», next Sunday, where he will have to swim 3,8 kilometers, cover 180 kilometers on a bicycle and run a marathon of 42 kilometers.
A task that, as the name of the competition indicates, is reserved only for "Iron Men", which the athlete from the Associação Cultural Sambrasense has already proved himself to be, by finishing a competition with similar characteristics, last year, in South Africa. The Algarvian managed to finish this test «Ironman», which in itself is a great achievement, after 11 hours and 28 minutes.
In Copenhagen, Filipe Conceição will meet around 4 athletes, 408 of which are direct competitors in the veteran class. In the same race, only two more Portuguese participate.
«It's a daily struggle to be able to reconcile work, family and daily training, but everything is possible with a lot of organization and sacrifice. After months of preparation, everything comes together for one day, and at that moment I just hope to give my best and overcome the times achieved in Africa", illustrated Filipe Conceição, who, in recent months, underwent an "intensive physical and psychological preparation ».
Days before leaving for Denmark, the athlete was received by the executive at the Chamber of São Brás de Alportel. In addition to congratulating Filipe Conceição for his career, the mayor highlighted the «good sporting dynamics» that exist in the county, something that is linked to «investment in infrastructure and in the diversified offer of sports».
