Macário CorreiaMacário Correia will present a new appeal against the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court (STA) that determined the loss of his mandate as president of the Chamber, this time an appeal for a review, as he considers that he has the right “to restore the truth”. The former president of the Chamber of Faro he ended up fulfilling the mandate to the end and did not re-apply, so any decision was void, but he does not give up on clearing his "good name".

The former mayor always claimed that he was being unfairly accused and that there was "complete lack of foundation" in what he was accused of. At issue, the fact that a judgment was issued concerning a set of alleged administrative irregularities committed by Macário Correia as president of the Tavira Chamber, before these were individually analyzed “in special administrative actions”.

The original sentence of the STA, against which the former mayor appealed several times and to several instances, in a process that had several judgments, some in favor, others against Macário Correia, dates back to July 2012. However, in parallel proceedings, the seven infractions on which the sentence for loss of office was based were judged, independently, until now "in favor" of the former mayor from Farense.

«Possibly, a decision on one of them is lacking. They are all favorable to me. We are heading towards an absurd situation», that of having been convicted of a series of irregularities that the same judicial system later considers to have not existed, said Macário Correia in statements to the Sul Informação.

Although, in practice, an eventual favorable (or even unfavorable) decision has no effect, since Macário Correia does not hold any municipal office (he is now managing director of the Algar company), the former president of the Chamber of Faro to prove that he always acted “in good faith and conscience” and that he was right, as he always claimed.

After a first ruling by the STA, in July 2012, which determined the loss of office, Macário Correia appealed the sentence first to the Supreme Court and, later, to the Constitutional Court (TC). After seeing the TC deny hearing his case three times, the STA suspended the decision, in April of last year, only to confirm it in June 213. At that time, Macário Correia he even asked for the suspension of the mandate of President of the Chamber of Faro, but came back less than a month later, when he saw a new appeal accepted by that court and fulfilled the mandate until the entry of the new executive, elected in the Municipalities of September 29, 2013.
