SeniorsIn July, the Municipality of Aljezur started the Happy Age Program, aimed at the senior population living in Carrapateira, Bordeira and Alfambras. The activities developed are oriented towards the playful and active occupation of free time for this age group, promoting interaction and involvement in group activities.

According to a statement sent by the City Council, “adherence has been very good, with around 30 people currently participating on a regular basis.

Considering that the program started in the parish of the county that has the least population and yet, with a high percentage of elderly population, this adhesion is very significant and leaves the municipality of Aljezur and the parish councils of Bordeira and Aljezur, quite satisfied with the success it represents».

For now, the main activities have been group games and crafts, but this program, according to the same statement, also promotes “conversation based on memories, recalling personal and local stories, songs, anecdotes, etc. And for those whose legs no longer allow it, teacher Isabel Serrão organizes, with other volunteers from the program, a visit to bring company and good spirits to those who are alone».

The program, which will be extended to the other parishes, will also learn about other activities, such as learning to use the computer, reading, local history, exchanges... but it will be more in autumn, when the heat and the tourist movement typical of summer invite the most quiet.
