Vilamoura2The Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago area recorded the highest average occupancy rate (80%) in the Algarve during the month of June, announced today by the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA).

According to data from AHETA, the overall average occupancy rate/room was 72,7%, similar to that seen in 2013. The turnover also remained at the same level as in the same month last year.

Lagos/Sagres had the lowest rate (64,5%), while in Albufeira the average occupancy was 73,2%, slightly above the regional average.

The areas of Tavira (+12,8pp) and Portimão/Praia da Rocha (+3,9pp) registered the main increases. The main declines were in Lagos/Sagres (-7,4pp) and Albufeira (-3,5pp).

Despite the rise in tourists from the Netherlands (+0,4pp) and Germany (+0,2pp), there were declines in the Irish (-1,1pp) and Portuguese (-0,6pp) markets.

By category, 5* hotels and aparthotels (+2,1pp) were the ones with the biggest increases in occupancy. The main declines occurred in 3* tourist apartments and villages (-6,2pp) and in 5* and 4* apartments (-1,3pp).

The 3* tourist villages and apartments had the lowest occupancy (60,9%), while the 5 and 4* had the highest (83,3%).
