A group of 18 trainees have just completed, in São Brás de Alportel, the Cork Industry Production Management Technical training course, promoted by the Employment and Professional Training Institute (IEFP), in partnership with the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, with the support of the local company Nova Cortiça.
Combating unemployment is a priority assumed by the municipality of São Brás de Alportel and it is in this sense that "a fruitful partnership" has been developed with the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training, which even allows for a functioning in the municipality. Professional Insertion Office (GIP), a service that provides support to the unemployed population and encourages employability in companies and the community.
The diploma delivery session for this course took place in the Main Hall of the Paços do Concelho building, on the 4th of July, symbolizing the culmination of a long journey of 18 months of learning and acquiring knowledge, in a preponderant sector in the municipality, which represents a strong economic potential for the region and for the country.
The cork sector is currently witnessing an aging of its workforce, which is facing the urgency of renewal, to be privileged by the transfer of skills from those who know to those who want to learn.
This professional training course, of a theoretical and practical nature, gave students a level IV qualification and equivalence to the 12th year of schooling, endowing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to start a career in the cork sector.
The success of this edition was guaranteed by the company Nova Cortiça, which announced, during the session, the hiring of three of these trainees, while others are already developing work in the area.
The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel joins the IEFP «with full commitment, recognizing the fundamental role played by training that seeks to respond to the labor needs of our region, creating responses that fill some gaps, in an attitude of combating unemployment, a great scourge that affects our society», stresses the municipality.
For the future, new training and projects are being prepared in the area of training and entrepreneurship.
