Citizen's SpaceFaro it will have four Citizen's Spaces, in locations outside the city limits, to provide “support to the population that resides outside the urban center”. Last Saturday, the municipality of Faro signed a protocol with the Agency for Administrative Modernization (AMA) for the installation of these spaces, which should come into operation this year.

The Citizens' Spaces to be installed in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Montenegro, Conceição (Parish Councils) and Estoi (the Council's former premises), will be "a complement" to the already existing services, second revealed to Sul Informação Secretary of State for Modernization Administrative Modernization Joaquim da Costa, in June.

No case of Faro, this is equivalent to saying that the Citizen's Shop of the Mercado de Faro, such as the Finance and Social Security services that exist in the Algarve capital.

The Government member assured that Citizen's Spaces are not intended to replace these services, but rather to be places where it is possible to access public services already available online, with the assistance of an employee who has received specific training. Basically, it is about combining digital services with face-to-face service.

"In these decentralized service spaces, which may have more than 18 public services, it will be possible to deal with around 80 issues, such as renewing the driver's license, delivering documentation to ADSE or changing the address on the Citizen's Card", reveals Faro local authority.

Along with Faro, the municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Tavira and Vila do Bispo signed

«Citizen's Spaces are undoubtedly interested in the benefits they can bring to citizens in terms of reducing bureaucracy and saving time. The expenses with the installation of hardware, software and training will be borne by AMA, which is also responsible for defining, purchasing and installing the furniture and all the appropriate equipment for the installation and operation of the Citizen's Spaces», adds the Chamber of Faro.

Local authorities will also have to invest, namely “in expenses with security, cleaning, maintenance (facilities and equipment), electricity, water, gas, data and voice communications, consumables, IT or other supplies and office supplies”.

"It will also be up to the Municipality to provide adequate human resources and collect the amounts due for the digital assisted service - these will be shared between the Municipality and the AMA, in the proportion of 65% and 35%, respectively, and also the dissemination of the Spaces of the Citizen,” he added.

The Chamber of Faro, which was one of the eight municipalities in the Algarve to join these new services, in a ceremony that took place in Monchique and was presided over by minister Poiares Maduro, considers that this is "an excellent way of boosting the development of the municipality, especially in rural areas, where those who reside, as a rule, have greater difficulty in getting to the decision-making centers".

Along with Faro, signed protocols in the municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Tavira and Vila do Bispo.
