????????????????The Portuguese fishing boat "Cristo Deus", which was held up on Tuesday about 130 miles west of Cabo de S. Vicente, Sagres, due to a breakdown, is being accompanied by the corvette "Baptista de Andrade", until to the port of Sesimbra, where you should enter this early afternoon.

A ship rescue operation has been coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), since 12 noon on the 29th of July.

The «Cristo Deus» fishing vessel, with five crew on board, located 230 kilometers west of Cabo de São Vicente, next to the Gorringe fishing bank.

corvetteThe Portuguese flagged fishing vessel issued a request for assistance to the MRCC Lisboa, after being out of control as a result of the gears it uses to fish accidentally getting tangled up in the shafts and propellers.

After receiving the request for assistance and because it was suspected that the incident could result in "an inadvertent entry of water by the vessel's vein, a situation that put the safety of the human life of the fishermen on board at risk", he was sent to the site "a ship to provide eventual assistance and simultaneously guarantee the safety of navigation in the area, since the vessel is ungoverned".

The corvette «Baptista de Andrade», which is guarding the permanent maritime search and rescue device assigned to the continent, arrived at the Gorringe bank at 7:30 am yesterday, Wednesday.

????????????????Using the ship's team of divers, it was possible to verify that «there was no risk of water entering the vessel's shaft», and it was possible to loosen the tangle of cables wound in the propeller, in a time-consuming and complicated operation.

After arriving at the fishing port of Sesimbra, the vessel "Cristo Deus" will be subject to a technical inspection by the expert of the local Maritime Authority, "to confirm its seaworthiness", thus ensuring that it will be able to sail in the future and continue with its fishing activity safely.
