ARCA inaugurationThe Recreational and Cultural Association «Azinhal» (ARCA) inaugurated its new headquarters on Friday, in the town with the same name as the municipality of Castro Marim. The opening ceremony was part of the 17th anniversary celebrations of the association, whose creation began with the desire of local young people to hold a sporting event.

The chairman of the Board of ARCA Jorge Martins told, at the ceremony, that «it all started 18 years ago, when local youth wanted to hold a football tournament and realized the need to create an association that could respond to the dreams and desires of young people from village".

“The headquarters that we opened brings us added responsibilities. We want to embody an ambitious activity plan, in which we believe we can count on our partners and the population to give life and dynamism to Azinhal. I would also like to emphasize the support of the City Council, which was decisive for the acquisition of the property, which is to say for the realization of a dream, which radiates happiness to all of us», he said.

For this association leader, the new headquarters is a «space of union and cohesion for the community of Azinhal, but also as a privileged means of promoting culture and sport in the northeast of the Algarve».

The president of the Castro-Marinean autarchy, Francisco Amaral, said that he knows very well “what it is to fight for associations and what it is to be at the head of an association, often with the incomprehension of others”.

«Twenty years ago, in the municipality of Alcoutim, without institutional support, I was the one who organized the first football tournaments and the Handicraft Fair. This is an enviable work. A very dignified space that will certainly help young people in the parish, contributing to the development of Azinhal and stimulating job creation. ARCA, like all local associations, will always be able to count on the support of the City Council, as it is only through a communion of efforts that we can have a stronger association and a more solidary council», said the mayor of Castro Marim.
