The Boa Esperança caravel set sail yesterday from Lagos, where it has been anchored, heading for Seville, to promote the Algarve to the Spaniards. The maritime expedition lasts, however, three months and will still take the replica of the 170th-century vessel to the bay of Cádiz, Malaga and Almeria, covering XNUMX nautical miles.

Departing for Seville, the caravel, symbol of the Portuguese Discoveries, will dock at the Delícias pier and serve as a stage, on the 09th, for a cooking show for the local press and official entities, who will be able to taste the tasty Algarve cataplana, prepared by a team from the Tertúlia Algarvia restaurant.

This charming action is aimed at guests from the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), but whoever wants to board the ship to have a look at their details or to receive information about the Algarve destination, can do so for as long as it is anchored in Seville until June 15th.

After the 15th, the caravel releases its moorings again to sail towards the bay of Cádiz, where it will stay until the end of the month, always with the aim of promoting the region to the Spaniards. With it, many promotional materials travel to distribute to visitors and various articles of merchandising of the Algarve brand that will be sold at prices inviting to the public.

From Cádiz, the plotted route leads to Good Hope to Malaga and Almeria, the last Andalusian ports of this long-range sea voyage.

The return to the Algarve will be in September, after 89 days of traveling through Andalusia, an autonomous community with 8,4 million inhabitants.

«This promotional action is very appealing due to the format it takes. Instead of the Algarve being present in the traditional means of communication, it shows itself through its gastronomy, its connection to the sea and a vessel measuring 23,8 meters in length. We expect thousands of people on board in these months, so we are confident that the name and tourism offer of the region will be widely spread among Andalusian residents, but also among tourists who are on vacation in this community that has about 39 million of tourist overnight stays per year, 20 million of which from foreigners», says the president of RTA Desidério Silva.

The initiative is organized by RTA, with the support of Fundación Nao Victoria.
