The PS was the most voted party in the European Elections, although it did not manage to stand out. According to the results obtained so far (there were 12 boycotts, one of them on Culatra Island and data are missing from two parishes in Vila Real), the socialists won 31,46 percent of the vote, with Aliança Portugal, which joins the PSD and CDS-PP, garnering 27,71 percent of the vote.

It also confirms the rise of the CDU, which is the third political force with the most votes, and the surprise MPT, which will elect at least one MEP, in this case, Marinho Pinto. The BE went down from 3rd to 5th most voted force and should only see Marisa Matias elected.

Around 1 am on Monday, only 17 of the 21 mandates are assigned. The distribution at that time was: Ps – 7 mandates; PSD/CDS – 6 terms; PCP/PEV – 2 mandates; MPT – 1 term; and BE – 1. Abstention, as expected, was overwhelming, with about 66 percent of voters not appearing at the polls, ie, two-thirds of voters.

What is already certain is that the Algarvian candidate for MEP Mendes Bota will not be elected, as he occupies the ninth place in the list of the coalition «Aliança Portugal», which in the best case, will elect 7 elements for the European Parliament.
