Vicente Amigo, Ricardo Ribeiro, Diabo na Cruz, OrBlua and Kumpania Algazarra are just some of the names of the Festival Sons do Atlântico, which returns this year, with a new location and new dates: from May 22nd to 24th, in Ferragudo (Lagoa) .

The festival dedicated to the music of the world, which for some years had the promontory of Nossa Senhora da Rocha as its stage, had to leave this place suspended over the ocean due to the fragility of the cliffs, which could cause some landslide. That's why the festival moved of weapons and luggage to Praia da Angrinha, in Ferragudo, where it will take place on two stages.

But there was also a change of season, as the festival was held in August before. Eduardo Manuel, from the Algarpalcos company, which produces this festival for Câmara de Lagoa, explained to Sul Informação that this «change was due to the fact that there is a lot of events on offer in the Algarve in the month of August, and specifically in Lagoa and neighboring municipalities, and we have lost our space in the calendar». Well then, in May!

Occupying about 7000 square meters in Praia da Angrinha, in an enclosure will be closed, tickets cost 8 euros per day or 20 euros for the three days of the Festival. In addition to the sounding names of the world music, the event includes gastronomy, handicrafts, street entertainment and some surprises.

In terms of music, stage 1 will feature fado by Ricardo Ribeiro and Diabo na Cruz (22 May), Souls of Fire and Spaniards Chambao (23) and finally flamenco by Vicente Amigo (Spain), as well as Kumpania Algazarra, and Batida Balkanica, to close, on the 24th.

On stage 2, there will be Al-Fanfare, Silvia Nazário, with Bossa and other Novas (22) and Os Artisans of Music, OrBlua and I. Rick DJ (roots/dub/revival), on the 23rd, and Mawtas do Namibe, Luís Galrito and Canto Livre, on the 24th.

To complement a musical poster with a strong insistence on the music made in Portugal and Spain, there will be craft and gastronomy stalls, namely “local cuisine with sea dishes made by fishermen, through the local fishermen's association”.

«Since the sea is so present in the gastronomic and economic culture of this region, it deserves to be celebrated and, in this way, in the festival, in addition to the musical aspect, we will have a strong gastronomic component and a representative sample of maritime activities. We have the presence of traditional fishing fishermen with their activities and maritime-tourism operators with their offers of the beauty of the Algarve coast», says Eduardo Manuel.

Another novelty will be transport: «our visitors who come from Portimão can go to the festival by boat, taking advantage of the ferry lines that will connect the two banks of the Arade river, or travel by Tuk Tuk, ecological vehicles that will also make circuits between Portimão and the Festival”, stress the organizers.

Tickets (children up to 12 years old do not pay) can be purchased at Ticketline, Worten, Fnac, at the precinct, at the Convento de S. José and at the Municipal Auditorium (Lagoa). There is a 20% discount for Lagoa Social cardholders or people who have used the services of the event partners: Wildwatch, Tuk Tuk and Ferry Ferragudo.

As for parking, it will be done in the parks near the beaches of Angrinha and Grande and in adjacent areas.

DEVIL ON THE CROSS

Os devil on the cross they are the perfect harmony between rock'n roll and Portuguese popular tradition. Formed by independent musician Jorge Cruz, Diabo na Cruz also incorporate experienced musicians such as Bernardo Barata, João Pinheiro, João Gil, Manuel Pinheiro and Sérgio Pires.

This strong alignment perfected the formula of combining a rock 'n roll base with Portuguese oral tradition as well as popular instruments. The result is a unique sound that will certainly inspire other Portuguese musicians to take a chance.

«Vida de Estrada is about Portuguese life today, on the one hand, and about the Devil on the Cross, on the other. It's about the lives we all lead, about what occupies us, what distracts us, what consumes us. But it is also our return, as the Devil on the Cross, to our life that is Life on the Road.

Everyone needs an escape. Everyone needs to find a reason that is their own, needs to feel free, to feel capable. For us, at Diabo na Cruz, that reason is this band, this passion for the country and its musicality. At the door of the third disc, the reason is also the privilege of sharing this music with such different audiences, with such different sensibilities.

We return to Vida de Estrada to reconnect with our followers, to introduce ourselves to those who still don't know us and to announce that they can share with a 2014 album filled with what Diabo na Cruz knows how to do».

And, suddenly, the music goes down the street and the party happens!

This sonorous uproar roams through the music of the five continents, transforming the sounds in which it plays into a traveling party, in the style of European fanfares.

Saltimbancos, children of the road and the wind, musicians in permanent revelry submerged in a cocktail of lively music, their combinations of musical notes form a tracery of cultures, where Balkan, Arab, Latin sounds are present, in conjunction or separately, Africans, ska, funk and hiphop, among others.

Kumpania Algazarra appeared in 2004 through the streets of Sintra, inspired by the energy of revelry and good disposition, and they take a very lively tour with them. That same year, they were already playing on the main stage of the Festival Andanças and making those who passed by there vibrate.

From there, they jump to the big stages at the Avante Festival, Optimus Alive, SuperBock SurfFest, Sudoeste, Sines World Music Festival and many more. Internationally, they pass through countries such as Spain, Holland, Belgium, England, Switzerland, among others. In 2010, they were invited to represent Portugal at the Portuguese Language Cultural Meetings in Rio de Janeiro.

Along the way, many DJs and producers are interested in mixing this racket and the idea of making the Kumpania Algazarra Remix (2010) comes up, that is, the songs from the first CD remixed in various styles. Xoices, Inner G, Womanin Panic, Black Sheep, Sam the Kid, Beat Laden, Yanus and the Breakfast Djs make pure alchemy, transforming the organic sound of Kumpania into something fresh for new tracks and new dances.
