International conference teaches how to solve mathematical problems with technology, creativity and affection

Between the 2nd and 4th of May, the University of Algarve and the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon are organizing the international conference Problem@Web – Technology, Creativity and Affection in the Solving of Mathematical Problems, which will take place at the Dom Pedro Golf Hotel Resort in Vilamoura.

The conference, which already has about 65 participants, takes place within the scope of the research project "Project@Web" and focuses on solving mathematical problems, in environments that extend beyond the classroom, being the field of research based on the solving of mathematical problems in competitions of an inclusive nature, developed through the Internet.

Thus, the conference will focus on three main strands: technology, with presentation of strategies and representations of technology-based problem solving approaches; creativity, which helps students to solve mathematical problems; and affect, based on the attitudes and emotions of students, parents and teachers about solving mathematical problems.

This initiative will be attended by participants from various countries such as Australia, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Italy, France, among others.

Jaime Carvalho e Silva, from the University of Coimbra, Marcelo Borba, from the State University of São Paulo (UNESP), Brazil, Norma Presmeg, from the Illinois State University (United States of America), and Michal Tabach, from the University of Tel Aviv (Israel) , are some of the guest speakers.
