A concert at Paderne Castle, evening visits to the Municipal Museum of Archeology and a photographic tour passing through the museum and the old town were the activities chosen by Albufeira to celebrate the European Night of Museums, May 17, and the International Day of the Museums, May 18th.

The celebrations begin on 17 pm, at 17 pm, with a concert at the Castle of Paderne in charge of Associação Música XXI, which presents the trumpeter Albano Neto and the group Al-Fanfare, which gives sound to wind and percussion instruments on a journey through music by other times and origins. The event is part of the Monuments Promotion and Enhancement Program (DiVam), under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which aims to promote, disseminate and enhance the region's cultural heritage.

Also on Saturday, 17, the opening hours of the Albufeira Municipal Museum of Archeology will be extended (from 14 pm to midnight) so that tourists and residents can visit this cultural space.

At 20:00 the guided visits to the temporary exhibition “Pioneers of scientific knowledge in the Algarve” begin, which introduces the public to some of the personalities that have distinguished themselves at a regional level from the end of the XNUMXth century to the XNUMXth century.

On May 18, International Museum Day, the Municipality takes a Photo Tour, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, which begins at the museum and extends to the surrounding area (downtown), in order to establish connections between the collections and the territory.

Those interested in participating in the tour must register by emailing [email protected] or by calling 289 599 639. On Sundays, the Museum of Archeology is open during normal hours, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:00 pm.

The theme chosen by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to celebrate the date in 2014 was “Museums: collections create connections”, in order to remember that “these spaces are living institutions that help to create bonds between visitors, generations and cultures in Worldwide".
