«Look at me – parenting support networks» is the theme of the 6th Baby Week in Olhão, which takes place from May 26th to June 1st and, for the first time, has a sponsor: Rui Duarte, captain of the team. SC Olhanense.
This is a prevention project that, since 2008, seeks to involve the entire community in an alert for quality care in the first years of life.
In 2014, the event, taking into account the theme "Look at me - parenting support networks", aims to raise awareness in the entire community about the importance of parenting and healthy interactions in the first years of life as promoters of physical and mental health of babies and families.
In this year's edition, there is the Baby Fair, taking place at Jardim do Pescador Olhanense, between May 30th and June 1st, which will feature a wide range of activities, such as massage for babies, child psychomotricity, time of the short story, thematic sessions, dance performances, fashion shows, as well as Community Activities carried out by the partners of this project, taking place between the 26th and 28th of May, such as scavenger hunts, stories, theater plays or dances.
All activities are free and are aimed at the general population and health, education and social and community intervention professionals.
During this Baby's Week, there will also be a Showcase Competition (decoration of shop windows alluding to the theme by local commerce shopkeepers) in collaboration with ACRAL Olhão, and a School Work Competition, in which schools and families in the county participate with the production of flowers alluding to the Baby Week theme.
Another highlight is the Technical Seminar, aimed at professionals from various sectors, on May 30, starting at 9:00 am, at the Real Marina Hotel & Spa, in Olhão, which will be attended, among other specialists, by Margarida Mesquita, professor at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and the sponsor of the Week, SC Olhanense team captain Rui Duarte.
Within the scope of the seminar, the 2014 Merit and Excellence Award will be awarded to an individual linked to the theme, and the 2014 Baby Star Award.

The event is promoted by the Municipality of Olhão, through the Social Network and the CPCJ of Olhão, and by ARS Algarve IP, through the Child Mental Health Support Group of the Olhão Health Center – Community Care Unit (UCC) Olhar+ of ACES Central.
In 2014, the Baby Week of the Municipality of Olhão counts with the collaboration of 50 local, regional and national entities and a great involvement by the school institutions, with the institutional support of UNICEF also being highlighted.
