The rector of the University of Algarve sets out to discover the municipality of Vila do Bispo, next Friday, May 2nd, ending this trip at the Fortress of Sagres, with a breathtaking view over the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.

António Branco will be received, at 10:00 am, at the Vila do Bispo Town Hall's Hall by President Adelino Soares.

From 10:30 am, the presentation of projects developed by professionals trained at UAlg is scheduled. Marine biologist Rodrigo Clímaco will speak about aquaculture and support for the Association of Shellfish Collectors of Vila do Bispo. Beatriz Oliveira, geologist, will explain the potential of geology in this municipality.

At 12:00, a visit begins in the parishes of the municipality, Raposeira, Figueira, Budens, Burgau, Barão, Vila do Bispo, ending in Sagres.

In the afternoon, the rectory team will visit the auction in Sagres – Docapesca and some maritime-tourist companies.

Starting at 16:30 pm, at the Sagres Fortress, Anabela Santos, from Associação Almargem, will present the Birdwatching Festival, a unique example of bird watching combined with nature tourism in Portugal, and Artur de Jesus, from Vila do Bispo City Council , will talk about the historical aspect of this place.

The visit to the municipality of Vila do Bispo will end with the screening of the film “Sons of a Greater God”, directed by Carlos Vaz, with images by Miguel Veterano and Rodrigo Corteseano, and interviews by Alexandra Trindade, which portrays the life of shellfish gatherers in harvesting of barnacles.

Rector António Branco chose as one of the strategic purposes of his mandate (2014-2017) to further strengthen the University's relationship with the region, so that a close collaboration can be established and a privileged space for reflection and joint action. .

Focusing on the motto “UAlgarve is our Campus”, the rector has already visited the municipalities of Loulé, Lagoa, Castro Marim, São Brás de Alportel, Lagos, Alcoutim e Albufeira.
