As of next June, Praia da Rocha will have more parking spaces, offering a total of 2049 spaces, 1769 of which are free, which will represent an increase of 20 percent compared to the current offer in terms of parking spaces. south of V3 Avenue.
This and other measures are related to the organization of public parking at Praia da Rocha and were presented to fifty businessmen by the mayor, Isilda Gomes, at a meeting where the mayor unveiled the opening of an underground car park in the heart of Praia da Rocha, with about 280 new parking spaces.
One of the novelties is the introduction of paid parking in that area and, in this sense, Portimão Urbis will be in charge of inspecting several charged areas, namely Rua do Miradouro, Beco do Sol/Travessa do Sol, Avenida Tomás Cabreira , Estrada da Rocha, Praia Três Castelos park and the park next to the PSP post.
The idea, according to the Municipality of Portimão, is to “encourage short and medium-term stops and not impede commuting by workers or visitors to Rocha, respecting the principle of rotation, so that vehicles do not occupy parking spaces for a whole day, as in many cases, which prevents people from going to Rocha and forces them to walk around and spend more money on gasoline than they will spend on parking meters».
In terms of short-term parking (up to an hour and a half) in the streets/parks with greater demand, Avenida Tomás Cabreira, Rua do Miradouro and Praia da Rocha Park are proposed next to the PSP post, while in terms of average Duration (maximum four hours) are indicated Beco and Travessa do Sol, Estrada da Rocha, Praia dos Três Castelos Park and the underground car park on the Tarik climb.
It is also planned to adopt the “Business Voucher” for the underground car park, whose objective is to encourage entrepreneurs to offer a product at reduced prices, for subsequent distribution to their customers.
According to Isilda Gomes, «this is a set of experimental measures and will be in force from June to September, to later assess its impact on the local economy, since it is better to make a mistake and correct it later, than not to do it. nothing, in the certainty that no decision will be taken that proves harmful to your business».
The meeting was considered very positive by the businessmen, who left some suggestions to the executive following the request made by Isilda Gomes to that effect. It was even agreed shortly to hold a new working meeting, with a view to analyzing these and other issues that concern Praia da Rocha businessmen, namely with regard to security, public lighting or traffic.
