The approximately 1000 athletes from 71 regional teams and respective delegations were received yesterday by the Municipality, at Praça dos Pescadores, in a festive atmosphere. After the parade through the city center, the young talents of national basketball formed a human frame with the symbol of a basketball and a smile, in homage to the sport's biggest youth event, which runs until the next 13th of April .
“Albufeira is a city focused on Youth and today it is proud to welcome with open arms these young athletes from all over the country, who give us back the hope of a bright future led by well-formed, competitive and healthy youth. It is with great pride that I declare open the biggest basketball sporting party held in Portugal!”. It was with these words that the Mayor of Albufeira, Carlos Silva e Sousa, closed the opening ceremony of the Youth Basketball Party, which took place yesterday afternoon, at Praça dos Pescadores.
The day was marked by the arrival in Albufeira of the delegations involved in the 2014 edition of the Youth Basketball Festival. The parade began at Avenida da Liberdade, passing through Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco, and ended at Praça dos Pecadores, where the Welcome Session for participants took place, with the intervention of the event's organizers.
To echo this moment, all participants were invited to form a human logo which, this year, incorporated a basketball and a smiley, as a way to demonstrate the happiness that the practice of the sport brings to young athletes.
Until Sunday, April 13, around 200 games will take place in five sports facilities in the municipality: Albufeira Pavilion, Albufeira Basic and Secondary School Pavilion, Albufeira Secondary School Pavilion, EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita School Pavilion and Francisco Neves Pavilion (Immortal).
This year, Basket Solidário's action will revert in favor of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Albufeira, which will receive the amount raised with the donation of 1,00 Euro from all participants of the event. Tomorrow, Friday, at 11:00 am, representatives of the Municipality and the Portuguese Basketball Federation will visit the premises of this Social Solidarity Institution to get to know up close the work carried out in favor of the most citizens.

The Finals of the event will take place on the last day, April 13, at the Sports Pavilion of the Basic and Secondary School (U-14), and at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion (U-16), where the Closing Ceremony and the Prize Giving, at 12:30 pm.
