Jahcoustix (Germany), La Selva Sur (Spain) and Batida Balkanica (Portugal) are the most recent confirmations for the 11th MED Festival, which will take place between June 26th and 28th, in Loulé.

On June 27, the African-American based in Germany Jahcoustix goes up to the Stage at Matriz with the rhythms of Roots Reggae, a musical genre with many fans at MED.

From Seville to Loulé, La Selva Sur will present on the last day of MED, at Palco da Cerca, a cosmopolitan musical journey through several cities, making their own reinterpretation of a wide spectrum of world music that includes swing, reggae , ska, Balkan melodies or Afro-Latin rhythms.

The sounds of the Balkans from Batida Balkanica are another confirmation for the poster of this 11th edition of the MED Festival.

In addition to Music, other forms of art will be addressed in this show by Batida Balkanica, such as Dance, Cinema and the Performing Arts. The performance is scheduled for June 27, at Stage da Matriz.

Also confirmed for this year's MED Festival are Gisela João (Portugal), Mercedes Peón (Spain), Bomba Estéreo (Colombia), Celina da Piedade (Portugal), Jupiter&Okwess International (Congo), Turtle Island (Japan), Bombino (Niger), Graveola and Polyphonic Garbage (Brazil) and Winston McAnuff & Fixi (Jamaica/France).

Tickets can be purchased at the Cine-Teatro Louletano or through the Festival's official website www.festivalmed.pt. During the pre-sale (until June 6th), and tickets will have the following prices: Daily Ticket – 10,00€, Festival Ticket (access to the 3 days of Festival) – 25,00€ and Daily Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children up to 16 years old) – 25,00€.

In the normal sales period, between June 6th and the days of the event, tickets will have the following prices: Daily Ticket – €12,00, Festival Ticket (access to the 3 days of the festival) – €30,00 and Daily Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children up to 16 years old) -25,00€.

Children up to 12 years old have free entry.

JAHCOUSTIX (Germany)
Jahcoustix spent his entire childhood and adolescence between Mexico, Kenya, the United States and Egypt where he discovered music in all its forms.

At the age of 20, he returned to Germany where he began his career and today, after 5 albums released and over 1000 concerts performed, he has become one of the greatest values ​​in European reggae.

After touring with names like Gentleman, Jamaram or Dub Inc, Jahcoustix has become a regular at every summer festival. In 2013 he edited the album “Frequency” which has contributions from names such as Horace Andy, Apple Gabriel (Israel Vibration), Kabaka Pyramid and Dub Inc, the album was considered by various media as one of the best roots reggae albums of the year .

 

LA SELVA SUR (Spain)

La Selva Sur is a cosmopolitan musical journey through the rhythmic and dance music of the world, which brings to the stage, in a vibrant, festive and unique way, sincere and committed lyrics.

The group was born in Seville, in 2006, created by members of several bands from this city such as O'funkillo, Falso Dogma, Rare Folk or Las Niñas.

Stylistically eclectic, very careful in the musical and instrumental parts, La Selva Sur makes its own reading of a wide variety of music from around the world, where genres such as swing, reggae, ska, Balkan melodies with Afro-Latin rhythms fit. , in a true musical fusion that unites music and party with its own optimistic language.

Since its creation and with only one model, the group starts to participate in several festivals inside and outside Spain, having won several band competitions.

In March 2010 they published their first work, “La gran kamastrónica de la zanfoña galactica”, consisting of 11 themes that propose a transoceanic journey with a stopover in Havana, Kingston, New Orleans, Bucharest, London, Belgrade or Jerez. Music and reflection to the rhythm of swing, reggae, ska, Balkan frenzy, salsa, rap and much more. They sing of love for the land and injustices.

The band grew after the release of this work, which allowed them to reach more stages of European festivals.

In April 2013, the second album was released, “Vacaciones en el Infierno”, an authentic musical bomb, with even more swing, ska or Balkan sounds.

 

BALKANIC BEAT (Portugal)
Batida Balkanica was born in 2012, in Portugal. The group was created by fans (and for fans) eager to see the Fusão da Música de Leste taking Portugal by storm. It appears in the form of a connection portal between all artists, lovers, fanatics, supporters and friends of the most euphoric sounds in the history of Music.

From the gypsy ethnic group, the festive spirit that characterizes them is born. From the philosophy of life, nomadic experiences grow, from those who know their Planet, detached from society and the material goods around them. Geography dictated the name: Eastern or Balkan Music!

Batida Balkanica presents itself live in DJ Set format (DJs or DJs + Musicians + Dancers + Performances) or Radio Show, where it makes a presentation as if you were on the Radio. In addition to Music, other art forms are addressed in Batida Balkanica, such as Dance, Cinema and the Performing Arts.
