It's already tomorrow, Wednesday, that more than a thousand athletes invade Albufeira to participate in the Youth Basketball Festival – Albufeira 2014. The competition starts the next day, but the program includes many other initiatives during five days full of basketball, conviviality, solidarity and learning.
Azores, Alentejo, Algarve, Aveiro, Bragança, Braga, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Madeira, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu are the 18 regions of the country represented by the 72 delegations from young basketball practitioners, who arrive tomorrow in Albufeira to participate in the sport's biggest youth party.
The welcome session will take place at Praça dos Pescadores, after a parade of the delegations from Avenida da Liberdade, passing by Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco and Avenida 25 de Abril.
To mark the beginning of the Basketball Festival, the athletes will form a human frame that promises to surprise the public once again.
From the 9th to the 13th of April, the Albufeira Sports Pavilions; the Basic and Secondary School of Albufeira; the Secondary School of Albufeira; the EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita School; the EB 2,3 Martim Fernandes School; and Francisco Neves (Imortal) will host close to 200 games and more than 1300 people, including players, judges, coaches, managers and family members.
The Finals of the different levels are scheduled for the last day, from 9:30 am, at the Sports Pavilion of the Basic and Secondary School, and from 8:45 am, at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion, where the Closing Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony will also take place. , by 12:30.
In addition to the prizes to be awarded to the top three in each competition, there will also be the Fair Play Prize, aimed at promoting healthy competition, and the Solidarity Prize, which provides for the donation of one euro by all participants. The funds raised will revert to the benefit of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Albufeira.
The Basketball Festival is an initiative organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira and with the support of the Algarve Basketball Association, Imortal Basket Club and Albufeira Basketball Club.
The event also has the collaboration of various district basketball associations across the country.
