This will be the most attended edition of Triathlon Prof. Carlos Gravata – City of Quarteira and Cup of Europe, taking into account the high number of entries. The female competition has the list of participants filled in, an unusual situation in competitions of this characteristic.
On the international front, the XIII Triathlon Prof. Carlos Gravata, which will be disputed this weekend, will have the presence of 290 athletes representing 29 countries, while in the stage counting for the National Club Championship, 320 athletes from 10 different nationalities will be in competition.
The organization of the competition – Triathlon Federation of Portugal, European Triathlon Federation, Loulé City Council and Quarteira Parish Council – aims to make this the best edition ever.
In this sense, the Autarchy of Loulé showed its full commitment to this achievement, a work that began in November 2013, together with the Federation, and which culminates in these two days. But the goals also go into the next year, since the dates for this Triathlon, announced shortly, are already guaranteed. "The goal for 2015 is to grow even more", reinforced those responsible for the race.
In this sense, in the next edition, in addition to the competitive aspect itself, some parallel activities are planned that will give a new dynamic to the event.
In 2016, the Quarteira Triathlon may take a step forward as when questioned by the Media, the organization left in the air the possibility that, in the short term, this event could become part of the calendar of the European Triathlon Championship.
For the vice-president of the Loulé City Council, responsible for the Sports department, this event constitutes “a showcase for the city and shows that Quarteira has unique and privileged characteristics for the realization of sports internships, in addition to being an excellent destination as stage of major international sporting events, namely in the areas of Golf (Portugal Masters), Hispismo (Atlantic Tour), Cycling (Bike Tour of the Algarve) and Triathlon (Quarteira Triathlon)”.
“We want the parish of Quarteira to be, more and more, a pole of attraction for international competitions, since it has all the conditions, including sports equipment, the climate and a wide range of hotels”, said Hugo Nunes.
Saturday and Sunday program
The program for this edition starts on Saturday, with the competition relating to the European Cup. At 13:45 pm, the Elite Feminina enters the competition and, at 16:30 pm, it is the turn of the Elite Men.
For Sunday, the junior and national components of this XII Triathlon are planned. The Junior European Cup starts at 8:45 am, with the Junior Women's competition and, at 10:00 am, with the Junior Men's competition.
At 11:30 am, the National Club Championship starts, with the Men's and Women's Elites taking part in action simultaneously.
