Chronicle of the 7th Crossing of the Via Algarviana – episode 7

From São Bartolomeu de Messines to Alte, it was close to 19 kilometers of walk, largely under the sign of the good smell of the orange blossom:

Friday, April 11, 7th day of walking:

Today, there were those who complained that the photos still didn't capture the smell: a large part of the route had the smell of orange blossom.

We walked in the middle of Barrocal, in an already more humanized area, with irrigated orange orchards, but also dryland orchards, with carob, almond, olive and fig trees. We also followed, for some time, the Meirinho stream, with its riparian vegetation that protected us from the heat.

There are those who say that they never drank so much water in their life and with so much gusto…

Halfway through, we passed a roadside petrol station and ran out of stock. It's just that walking whets your appetite!

A curious thing about this crossing of the Algarve is that the landscape changes, just like the hikers. There is a nucleus of five elements that proposes to go from beginning to end, but, along the way, the landscape human being is also changing.

There are hikers who leave, taking with them a new experience, especially if it was the first time they were on these journeys.

There are old friends who come from other walks, Algarvian or not, there are new people who bring new stories to the group, in a coexistence that becomes camaraderie as the kilometers accumulate on their legs.

Today we had dinner at the Hotel de Alte. Tomorrow 16,2 km await us, between Alte and Salir.

Veja here more pictures of the day.
