From Silves to São Bartolomeu de Messines and half the crossing is done!

Until now, this is one of the best and most spectacular routes on the Via Algarviana. Probably due to the rain that has fallen in recent weeks, Nature exploded in all its splendor. The range of greens is almost unlimited, punctuated by the white of the rockrose flowers.

The first part of the route, up to the wall of the Barragem do Funcho, is a mixture of trees (initially) and bush (soon to follow). The undulating hills of the Algarve mountain range give us a taste of its grandeur here. We feel small when we walk there.

As we were going in complete autonomy today, we killed a wild boar to eat (no, this was a joke!), we took advantage of the picnic tables next to the dam wall to recover our strength, even as the sun was tightening. And even though we were in sight of the water, the heat was boiling!

Then, one of the miracles that the mountain has reserved for us happened: in a corner came a spout of water so fresh that the people took off their boots and created a free spa, with excellent quality: cold water and a fabulous view!

Apart from a bad encounter with very aggressive dogs – although there was no problem – with today's route we reached the middle: we have already covered about 150 kilometers of the Via Algarviana.

Let's do the rest!

6th day – Silves to São Bartolomeu de Messines, 27,6 km. Overnight at the Casa do Povo in Messines. Tomorrow there will be 19,3 km between Messines and Alte.
