The Municipality of Castro Marim handed over today to the Association of Accordionists of the Algarve Mito Algarvio the former Barrocal 1st cycle school, in Altura, now recovered and enhanced.

The school is the new headquarters of Mito Algarvio, where the “Eugénia Lima” accordion school will also function, in honor of the one who was considered the best Portuguese accordionist ever and who was the main driving force behind the creation of the association, who died recently.

Mito Algarvio – Association of Accordion Players of the Algarve – is a non-profit association that works in the research, defense and dissemination of the accordion, an essential element of Portuguese cultural and musical identity. Created two years ago, Mito Algarvio also works to promote the teaching of the accordion, bringing together around 30 students who will now gather at the new school “Eugénia Lima“.

The collaboration protocol was signed this morning by the president of the municipality of Castro Marim, Francisco Amaral, and by the president and vice president of Mito Algarvio, João Pereira and Sérgio Conceição, being valid for five years and automatically renewable.
