Marlon Lipke won second place in the final classification of the Allianz Caparica Pro, inaugural stage of the Liga Moche 2014, the main Portuguese professional surfing circuit.

During the three days of competition at Praia do Marcelino, Costa de Caparica, the athlete from the Surf Club of Faro made a safe route until the final, this Sunday, where he lost to the national champion Frederico Morais, in a very close duel that only for less than 0,46 tenths in the score of the last wave did not have a favorable outcome for the Algarve.

Marlon Lipke passed the first two rounds of the competition with solid victories in his heats.

In the third round, he passed in second, but always with battery control, without applying too much physical effort, not least because the athlete from Algarve is still recovering from a knee injury.

Today began with the quarter-finals in batteries with two athletes, where Marlon Lipke faced his friend Nicolaus Von Rupp, in a re-edition of the final of the last stage of Liga Moche 2013, in Cascais.

As last year, the Algarve came back to win and with a categorical display (16 points), choosing the waves well and scoring 8 points in their first wave, which put the opponent under pressure.

An hour and a half later, Marlon Lipke returned to the water for the semi-final against José Ferreira, 3rd in Liga Moche 2013. The two athletes had already faced each other this year, in the final of the first stage of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2014, in January, in Faro.

In this final, José Ferreira was first and Marlon second. Today, in the second semi-final of the Allianz Caparica Pro, Marlon Lipke won, with 12.40 points, against 11 points for Guincho's opponent, in a heat with few waves.

In the final, early this Sunday afternoon, Marlon had a duel with the national champion and lost by very little. The athlete from Algarve scored 15.30 points (against 15.75 for Frederico Morais) but made the best wave in the final (8.50).

With five minutes to go, Marlon made a wave with three good maneuvers. He needed 7.26 points on the wave to go first, but the judges gave him 6.80 points.

The Algarve was represented in this inaugural stage of the Liga Moche 2014 by four clubs, with a total of 12 athletes, four of which were eliminated in the first round: Jakob Lilienweiss and João Mealha (Surf Club de Faro), Ivan Bailote (Albufeira Surf Clube) and Paulo Almeida (Clube Naval de Portimão). In the men's second round, on Saturday, three more athletes from the Algarve were eliminated: Francisco Duarte (Clube Naval de Portimão), Pedro Tomás Alcobia (Algarve Surf Clube) and Miguel Mouzinho (Algarve Surf Clube).

At the opening of the women's roster, the only athlete from the Algarve in this category was also eliminated: Yolanda Sequeira-Hopkins (Clube Naval de Portimão).

Also on Saturday, Marlon Lipke was the only Algarvean to survive the third men's round at Caparica, in which three athletes from the Algarve Surf Clube were eliminated: Joackim Guichard, Eduardo Fernandes and Luca Guichard.

Highlight for Joackim Guichard, from Tavira, who in the first round was stronger than the veteran Ruben Gonzalez (four times national champion) and then was eliminated in the third round by the same opponent, with a wave making the difference in the final moments of the battery.

A second place (Marlon Lipke), two ninth places (Joackim Guichard and Eduardo Fernandes) and a 13th place (Luca Guichard) were the best results achieved by the Algarve representatives in the inaugural stage of the Liga Moche 2014, which this year has a competition in Aljezur, at Praia do Amado, from the 6th to the 8th of June.

The next stage of the Liga Moche 2014 takes place in Ericeira, in Ribeira d'Ilhas, from the 17th to the 19th of April.
