The first steps towards the creation of the Regional Youth Council, a regional platform that will represent young people from the Algarve to the various entities in the region were taken last Saturday. The ECOS Cooperative e11 Algarve Youth Associations came together to kick off this process, which aims to foster greater citizenship and participation of youth in society.
This platform is another fruit of the «Algarve 2020 – a young proposal» project. launched in 2013 by the Algarve Cooperative of Education, Cooperation and Development. Before, 20 proposals for the creation of a youth policy strategy in the Algarve.
In this first meeting, which was attended by organizations from different municipalities of the Algarve and took place in the delegation of Faro of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, the objectives and purpose of this platform were discussed.
“The importance that this platform should assume in the congregation and development of the youth associative fabric in our region, which in comparison with other parts of the country is frankly reduced, revealed the ECOS.
«The Algarve Regional Youth Council will have a fundamental role in disseminating information among the different associations and entities working in the youth field; training and promoting networking; in addition to being a partner of regional and national public entities in the development of policies, and respective programs aimed at the young population in particular», summarized the cooperative.
For ECOS, much of the public investment in the most diverse programs and instruments aimed at youth may be more successful “when thought out, developed and put into practice together with its main recipients, young people”.
This meeting was just the first of a series of planned work moments, which will define the organic of this platform that aims to be «inclusive of the diversity of relevant and active actors in the field of youth in the Algarve, and representative of the reality of young people in our region. ».
«Cooperativa ECOS has pledged to those present to contribute with its experience in facilitating meetings, and conducting participatory projects with various actors, to extend this initial working group to organizations throughout the Algarve, and to lead this process', he concluded.
