Faro will host on Saturday the regional seminar of the "You in Europe" campaign, which aims to encourage European citizenship, specifically the participation of young Portuguese in the elections for the European Parliament, which will take place on May 25, at 9:30 am, at delegation of Faro of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth.

A session promoted by the National Youth Council (CNJ), with the support of the Youth in Action Program and in partnership with the ECOS Cooperative, a regional structure that wants to empower young people in the Algarve “to make an informed choice” when they go to the polls.

Entries are free and the limit for making them is today, Thursday. Interested parties can fill in the form here. Lunch is guaranteed by the event organizers.

“The Tu in Europe program will focus on disseminating information and carrying out activities that promote greater knowledge and understanding of the EU and the mechanisms of European democracy. The project will be in various regions of the country, from the North to the South of Portugal, including the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira», revealed the cooperative for the promotion of youth citizenship in the Algarve.

"We want to increase the level of information aimed at young people about the European elections and also combat the high abstention rates among young people, which in 2004 reached 64 percent and in 2009 the 71 percent," they add.

At the regional seminars, the CNJ will focus on information, training and capacity building for participants “to be multipliers of the You message in Europe, promoting skills so that they can streamline activities in their local communities”. Hence, the main target audience are organizations working in the youth area, technicians from public entities that work with young people, although the invitation is extended to individual citizens “with an interest in the subject”.

And why participate? “Because we are Europe and we have the right, duty and opportunity to understand the democratic mechanisms of the European Commission and to decide in a conscious and informed way about the direction we want for our European project!”, defend the organizers of the event.
