The 1st Meeting of the Sotavento do Bebé and Family Health Centers Group (ACES) «Learning to read with babies», takes place on March 28th and 29th, in the Auditorium of the Municipal Library of Castro Marim.

It is an organization of that primary health care unit, which has a partnership with renowned professionals at national level in the scope of Pediatrics, Clinical Psychology, Education and Baby and Family Sciences.

The main objective of the Meeting is to bring together professionals and families around the baby and the neuro-behavioral signs it produces, from an early age, in its life course, enticing technicians and families to know how to identify them, using them in a language perspective which can and should be used as a tool in terms of clinical intervention, interaction and early relationship with the child. The ultimate purpose is informed, harmonious, healthy and invested parenting.

The contribution of North American pediatrician and professor Thomas Berry Brazelton, through his “Touchpoints” development model, a new multidimensional, collaborative, preventive and builder of alliance relationships between parents and professionals from different areas, should be highlighted at this Meeting, and also the intervention of João Gomes-Pedro and team members from the Brazelton/Gomes-Pedro Foundation for Baby and Family Sciences.

ACES Sotavento, as a provider of Primary Health Care, has taken on over the past few years some action strategies aimed at promoting prevention policies, which translate, for example, into the creation of preparation courses for parenting and childbirth, counseling and promotion of breastfeeding and signaling the most vulnerable children and families for the integration of teams of the National System for Early Childhood Intervention (SNIPI).
