The PS/Faro launched a Public Petition demanding the «immediate completion of the works of the North Bypass and the João de Deus Secondary School (Faro)” and accuse the Government of “lack of respect for the Algarve and, in particular, for its capital”. The petition can be online subscription.
«Remember that the works of the North Variant to Faro they stopped at a time when they were just months away from being completed. The Socialists had previously warned of the deterioration of the works, namely due to the effect of winter on the slopes and the consequent increase in the cost of its completion, but the works have been stopped for almost two years, without the Government moving forward with any deadline, despite the works have cut municipal roads, namely in Penha and Rio Seco, harming the populations, forced to make great detours to leave and return home», illustrated the socialists in a press release.
«Identical situation occurs at João de Deus Secondary School, whose works entered the fourth year, with students who would complete secondary education always with classes in containers, unworthy and undesirable conditions that jeopardize not only safety but also the own performance and academic success» , they add.
“The Government has to respect the Algarve and its Capital. This Public Petition aims to mobilize the Farenses around something that should already be completed and to be used and enjoyed by the people. It is no longer possible to keep our students studying in containers any longer and allow the Northern Variant to degrade, a fundamental road infrastructure for removing 20 cars a day from inside Faro, thus increasing the fluidity of traffic in the city and the very quality of the air we breathe», considers the council leader of PS Luís Graça, for whom «the PS Faro in this way, it is giving public expression to the indignation of the people of Faro in the face of the unbearable situation of abandonment and blocking of public works in Faro».
