The waterfalls of Barbelote, on the northern slope of the Serra de Monchique, very close to Fóia, are the place where the Algarve Nucleus of the League for the Protection of Nature makes it known on Saturday, March 1st, with another walking tour.

Saying that it is «one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Monchique», in the «top of the Algarve», LPN points out that the route, dotted with syenite outcrops, will run through a valley where old agricultural terraces and small mountain villages remain. , today practically abandoned.

Climatic conditions and altitude condition the presence of vegetation; in Fóia, dense gorse, cistus and juniper bushes dominate; along the water lines, riparian galleries of ash, willow and alder give a lush touch to the landscape, dominated by eucalyptus plantations.

The tour, which is only about five kilometers long, but with a marked unevenness, will be guided by biologist Filipe Bally. The meeting point is at 9:30 am, at the top of Fóia, Monchique.

To participate, you must pre-register by noon tomorrow, Thursday, February 27, sending an email to [email protected] , indicating name, date of birth, ID number, CC or Passport, for the purposes of compulsory insurance.

The organization advises you to bring boots and a walking stick, as well as a raincoat, as weather conditions are likely to be unstable.

And because this will also be the weekend of the Monchique Traditional Sausages Fair, the LPN Algarve advises participants to stay in the mountains to have lunch in one of the many restaurants that serve traditional dishes, ending later with a visit to the fair, to taste and buy local products.
