The PSD deputy Cristóvão Norte ended, on behalf of his Parliamentary Group, today's hearing with Environment Minister Jorge Moreira da Silva, dedicated to coastal issues, after recent storms that caused damage throughout the country.

The Algarve parliamentarian pointed out that "the discussion of the Law on the basis of land policy and land use planning should be the cornerstone of a new vision of the territory, which faces climate change and extreme weather phenomena in an integrated manner and not with actions short-term projects that are fine, but do not solve much, as was the example of barra da Fuzeta, in the Algarve in 2010, and which are an excellent example of the endless succession of mistakes that we all know because the technical bases that should have been at their origin were insufficient “.

Cristóvão Norte also asked the Government to continue its efforts to comply with the Plan for the Protection and Enhancement of the Coast approved in 2012, and congratulated him for ensuring that he has the financial means to respond to the highest and highest priority actions contained in this program, 77 of the which will take place in the Algarve, as well as re-evaluate the POOC and other territorial management instruments.

Finally, the Algarve parliamentarian considered that "there must be permanent monitoring, the plans must be dynamic and the demonstrated vulnerability of parts of our territory, along with severe drought cycles, demand that the levels of execution of these plans be more and safeguarding people and goods remains a political priority”.
