The Regional Health Administration of the Algarve made public to guarantee that the Ministry of Health has given "special attention" to the Algarve in the last three years "to strengthen and improve the response capacity of health care in the Region".

A position taken «following recent news about the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve (CHA) and the dispute about the alleged “degradation” and “disinvestment” in the NHS in the Algarve Region». Saturday and Sunday there were human cordons for health in the Algarve, in Portimão and Faro.

For ARS do algarve, «with the creation of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, integrating the hospital units of Faro, Portimão and Lagos, the articulation of the assistance activity of these hospitals is reinforced, aiming to promote the complementarity between them, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the human resources available in the Region, without prejudice to the users' access to quality health care ».

Improvements in efficiency and effectiveness that many users and some political leaders in the region do not believe has been achieved, with the merger of the three hospitals. A reality more felt in Barlavento, where the concentration called by citizens through social networks had more impact, bringing together more than 400 people.

yesterday, sunday, in Faro, the second human cordon for health of the weekend did not gather as many people, with just over a hundred people attending, but it had prominent figures from the political panorama.

The National Coordinator of the Left Bloc João Semedo, the deputy to the Assembly of the Republic of the PS Miguel Freitas, the mayors of Loulé, Olhão and Tavira, Vítor Aleixo, António Pina and Jorge Botelho, all socialists, the former president of the Administration Algarve Health Department Rui Lourenço and the president of the Algarve Federation of PS António Eusébio are examples.

It was also noted the presence of people from different age groups, from the youngest to a 95-year-old woman. "My mother insisted on coming and wants to go through the gate," said one of the protesters.

The mayors present, attended because they wanted to «pass the message of the defense of health care and the National Health Service (SNS) in the Algarve».

«This is a sign of support, on our part, what are the demands of health professionals and the population», illustrated the mayor of Tavira and AMAL Jorge Botelho, on the margins of the human cord.

João Semedo, on the other hand, started yesterday in Faro the Roadmap for the Health of the Left Block. "If the ministers used the NHS and waited hours to be seen, they would understand the result of their policies", summed up the party leader and also a doctor.

In this action, signatures were collected on a funeral wreath, with messages such as “go away Pedro” and a letter written to be delivered to the CHA Board of Directors. Both were handed over to the Head Nurse on duty.

There was no reaction from the CHA administration, but from the Algarve's ARS, the assurance was reached that «the increase in the response capacity of primary health care and the implementation of the expansion of the integrated continuous care network in the Algarve Region, despite the current context that the country is going through, have allowed hospital care to reinforce the conditions for providing health care with better quality and in a sustainable way to the entire population».
