The Odiana association will promote an interpretive walking tour at Cumeada de Alta Mora, in Castro Marim, on February 2nd, to observe the white and pink mantle of the almond trees in bloom, which covers the Barrocal and Algarve mountains in January and February.

In collaboration with the Friends of Alta Mora Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association (ARCDAA), Odiana suggests a guided tour. The organization hopes that “hundreds of participants” will join, who will “experience the taste for hiking and the pleasure of being in direct contact with nature, in the month when the almond trees cover the slopes of the Ribeira do Beliche in white”.

Those interested in participating should contact Odiana or ARCDAA through telephones 281 531 171 and 965 284 657 and emails [email protected] and [email protected].

The meeting point is scheduled for 9 am, in front of the headquarters of the Alta Mora Hunters Association, in Funchosa de Cima. After the walk is over, there is lunch for participants, as well as a display of local products, with emphasis on homemade bread, traditional sweets and dried fruits and dance music.

This initiative is part of the UADIturs project and is co-financed by the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain-Portugal (POCTEP/FEDER 2007-2013). The initiative also has the support of the municipalities of Castro Marim, Alcoutim and the Parish Council of Odeleite.

«The Lower Guadiana offers a network of 135 kilometers of walking routes in the municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim and VRSA, duly traced and signposted, allowing visitors to discover all the richness that the region has to offer. There are nineteen routes that rediscover the heritage, landscape and traditions of a region that maintains valuable testimonies of its history», recalled Odiana.
