The Castro Marim City Council started, on January 7th, the free distribution of fruit to pre-school and primary school students in the municipality.

This action, which continues during the current school year in public schools and covers 360 children, guarantees a diversified distribution of fruit, entirely funded by the municipality, which includes pears, apples, oranges or bananas.

"The measure in force represents an investment of almost 4 euros and provides for the distribution of fruit in schools twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), actively contributing to the awareness of children and their families and the need to cultivate habits healthy foods that translate into good intellectual performance and adequate physical development», stresses the Chamber of Castro Marim.

The project aims to contribute to a healthy and balanced diet for children and is based on the School Fruit Scheme, a community program promoted by the Institute for Financing Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP).
