The exhibition “José Tengarrinha – the other side of the coin” will be inaugurated at the Portimão Museum, on Tuesday, December 10th, at 19 pm.

An hour before, the launch session of the book “New History of the Portuguese Press from the origins to 1865”, by José Manuel Tengarrinha, will take place.

In the origin and development of this exhibition dedicated to the former bank clerk, his daughter Margarida Tengarrinha was joined by José Manuel Tengarrinha, his son.

This exhibition reveals the biographical and professional path of a local personality, José Mendes Tengarrinha Júnior, who came to Portimão in 1925 as a correspondent for Banco de Portugal, later assuming the role of manager, when the city takes on such a branch. institution.

In this exhibition, his artistic side and a lesser known facet, that of photographer and painter, stand out, through the exhibition of a set of photographs, but above all of painting, where the Barlavento Algarvio is widely represented.

At 18 pm, the book “New History of the Portuguese Press from the origins to 00” will be launched, written by José Manuel Tengarrinha, son of José Mendes Tengarrinha.

This work, which deals with the history of periodicals, its origins and development, since the first informative papers that appeared in Portugal in the XNUMXth century, will be presented by Vítor Reia Baptista, professor of communication sciences at the University of Algarve.

Both events are part of the City Day Celebrations program.

The Portimão Museum can be visited on Tuesdays from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm and between Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm, closing on Mondays.
